David Fuller pretended to be a Californian teen in order to lure Kacie from her home for nefarious reasons. He kept her chained in a van in a storage unit for days until he killed her. When approached by police, David shot himself in the head.

Kacie's parents went on to start a foundation to protect children from online predators.

Crime Jessica was killed by five individuals. Namely, Matthew Puccio, Andrew Forney, his wife, Kandis Forney, and a third couple. Matthew killed her and then the others either helped or were aware of what had happened. A clear motive has not been given but it is suspected she had asked him to move out of her house. Casey Viner and Tyler Barriss were responsible for placing the fraudulent call, and their intended target was Shane Gaskill. Instead the police swatted the Finch family home where Andrew ended up dead. His niece, Lisa Finch committed suicide in 2019 as she never recovered from seeing him killed.
